THE SANDWICH DIARIES: S1.E7. "Discipline"
Hope everyone had a great and productive first day back at work dispute the hangovers, existential dread, dangerously low serotonin levels and just having to face reality in general. Well done! You've mustard the strength to spill your self out of bed after only 5 alarm snoozes, splashed on your clothes, injected yourself with lethal-for-a-horse portion of caffeine and then you went and did it whatever that is you do! I am very proud of you and your great display of discipline.
I, on the other hand, had to also show discipline but in my own special way. Since I start work tomorrow, I had another later morning raise that morphed in to early afternoon, a nice little hike down to the nearby island of civilization where I have failed to find any fresh yeast, and a little look around the craft beer shops which might have resulted in "sampling" about 7 brews by 5 o'clock. This seemed like a Dijon vu of the day before and I felt like maybe I should just have another day of doing nothing.
But then I thought: no, I mustard-ress you today and do some work on the sandwich. So I went back into a different, much more remote and dangerous island of civilization called Central London, found all the things I needed, and made mustard. Which is btw super easy, only takes about 10 minutes to make and you can have a lot of fun experimenting with it so much so that I made 3 different types of it.
And you know, one can't just always run on motivation alone. It and inspiration can be less reliable than printers at work, rearer than a golden Charizard or the kind of steak that I like and more fleeting than francium-223. Discipline is just as, if not more important than inspiration sometimes. After all, you mustard-mit it is much easier to be productive and creative when you are already in motion. Even if it is difficult to keep going at times, don't worry, motivation will come while discipline will carry you through.
P.S.
Here are the other terrible puns that fortunately didn't make it into this: "muster-add", "didn't cut the mustard" & "50 Shades of Grey Pupon".
Also, I was lucky to make some pretty banging home-made teriyaki wild salmon&trout today for a beautiful and lovely friend of mine, so I thought I'd throw it in to make up for the late entry (and also to show off).
P.P.S.
I'd really recommend either reading Murakami's "What I talk about when I talk about running" if to hear a much better writer than me talk about discipline and inspiration. Or watch much more creative Burnie Burns talk about "staying motivated":
